Business Cards are one of your most important methods of communicating with your potential customers. If you're serious about making a good first impression, then the least you can do is get some quality business cards.

Business Card Designs

Don't worry if you're not a great designer as many printers will take care of designing your business cards for you. Some of the online printers have templates that enable you to choose from hundreds of backgrounds, logos, fonts and colours to get the look you want. Bespoke Designs It'll cost a bit more, but bespoke designs may just give you the edge that you need in creating the right impression. As always, think about your audience. Create a card that you can imagine would belong to the type of organisations that leads your industry.

Plain Business Cards

As the name suggests, plain card is exactly what it says on the tin. However, even plain card can come in a variety of qualities and thicknesses. Cheaper card will usually be lightweight and flimsy or rough to the touch, and therefore not really suitable for business cards.

Weighing in at about 200gsm, calendared card has been processed to produce a smooth surface, but they can still be a bit too flimsy for business cards.

First impressions count

You've just met a potential customer and, as you part company, you reach into your pocket and hand them your business card. You've probably only known the person for just a few minutes and so, like it or not, the business card that they are holding in their hands will be one of the most important things that they will be taking away with them.

Know your market

Take a look at the business cards of other companies that operate within your sector, as well as the business card of suppliers and potential customers to get a feel for the type of quality and designs that are used within your industry. For example, the type of business card that is used for legal services will often look very different to the business cards that are used to promote sports and entertainment.

Check out the Competition's Business Cards

Once you have collected a variety of cards from within your industry made about on the table and order them from good to bad. Try to identify what makes a good business card in your business sector. Is it bright colours? Italicised fonts? Heavyweight, textured or shaped card? Remember that all the cards on the table are your competitors.

Get creative with your Business Cards

It's not unusual for many people to collect business cards and file them away in a large wallet of hundreds or even thousands of cards. As a result, you want your car to stand out above all others. Fortunately, many business cards are very simple designs, with just a white background, a bit of text and a logo at the top. By adding a bit more colour, images and photographs to your design you should be able to make your card stand out from the crowd. However, you should take great care to not over-design your card so that it appears cheap and tacky.

Quality costs

Wherever possible, avoid using cheap card, cheap printing and cheat designs just to save a few pounds. If you're serious about your business and the opportunities for you to make money than even the most expensive business cards will only cost a fraction of 1% of the overall revenue that you could receive from a single sale.

Message received... and understood

Remember that the primary purpose of your business card should be to give the potential customer all information that they will need to be able to contact you. The recipient of the business card should be able to easily identify who you are, where you're from and how they can phone, e-mail or write to you.

A little bit extra

If your company name doesn't describe exactly what you do, then you should consider putting a slogan or a single sentence on your business card so that someone who looks at your card can instantly understand what your organisation does. Many organisations simply place their name at the top and contact details beneath, but they fail to identify what it is that they actually do.
